ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY FEB 1st

The public is invited to join us this Monday, February 1st at 7pm at the Baker Community Center for Millington Composite Squadron's annual awards ceremony. Come celebrate as we honor our members for their service and accomplishments over the past year. Refreshments will follow. This is a great time to learn more about the programs of Civil Air Patrol and what we are doing here in the community.  Everyone is welcome.

Cadet Meeting This Week

There WILL be a cadet meeting this Saturday, 30 January due to losing one of our meeting dates this month.  With the annual awards ceremony taking place this Monday, 1 Feb, this will be a final push to complete any promotion requirements beforehand. Also, there is a possibility for orientation flights but we won't know until Friday.  Check your emails for the agenda.

No Meeting January 16th

Due to an active mission, there will be no meeting on Saturday, 16 January.  For anyone wishing to visit, we invite you to come back next week.

CAP Members Enjoy C-17 Incentive Flight with Air National Guard

This month several members from Millington Composite Squadron and Group IV (West TN) joined with members from Desoto Composite Squadron in North MS to enjoy an incentive flight with the Air National Guard aboard a C-17 cargo plane.

Incentive flights are rare events contingent on numerous factors.  This one had been in the works for quite a while and was made possible by the personnel at the 164th Airlift Wing ANG in Memphis. CAP members had the opportunity to learn about the C-17 and witness an aerial refueling.

CAPtain Santa Visits MCS

We know Santa is an outstanding pilot.  All those take-offs and landings in one night must require alot of skill and energy.  In spite of being so tired, he made a surprise visit to share his Christmas candy and spread good cheer.  Thanks, CAPtain Claus!

FedEx Hosts Millington CAP for Flight Simulator Experience

Seventeen members of Millington Composite Squadron recently participated in some flight simulator training courtesy of FedEx.  The event was attended by ten cadets and seven senior members who got to experience what it was like to fly a jumbo jet.  FedEx opened two Boeing 777 flight simulators and one MD-11 for the four hour event held at the FedEx Air Operations Training Center in Memphis. Prior to the event, one of the instructors from FedEx came to a cadet meeting and conducted a ground school cockpit familiarization course to help prepare them for the experience.

 Aerospace Education is one of the three missions of Civil Air Patrol, with Emergency Services and Cadet Programs being the other two.  This was a great hands-on AE learning opportunity that was both fun and educational.  Thank you to FedEx and the sim operator employees for your generosity and interest in promoting aviation to our members.

Memphis Airshow 2015

Members of Millington Composite Squadron once again participated as event staff for this year's Memphis Airshow, which featured numerous performers including the US Air Force Thunderbirds.

MCS was joined by three other West Tennessee squadrons (Jackson, Paris, Bolivar) along with members of Group 4 staff who all helped with parking cars, traffic control, manning the recruiting booth, and crowd management.

One special treat was getting a personal tour of the Thunderbird planes by one of their crew chiefs and meeting some of the Thunderbird pilots.  The annual event took place at Millington Regional Jetport September 25-27.
